Director Of Hockey Appointed

Dear Members, Players, Parents, and Supporters,

We are absolutely thrilled to share some fantastic news with you all as we look forward to the upcoming season.

Following a thorough search, we have officially appointed Rob Sorrell as our new Director of Hockey and Men’s 1st XI Coach.

We are incredibly excited to welcome Rob to the club. He joins us with an exceptional coaching pedigree, most notably having coached at SV Kampong in the Netherlands, one of Europe’s strongest and most prestigious hockey clubs. Because of this background, Rob brings a deep, firsthand understanding of what elite excellence looks like, balanced perfectly with a passion for what makes a club truly inclusive and community-driven.

In addition to his time in Europe, Rob has coached at the National League level, participated in elite international coaching programmes, and is just finishing a highly successful tenure as the Director of Hockey at Hurstpierpoint College.

Rob is coming to us full of ideas, energy, and ambition. I know he is going to be a brilliant addition to our already immensely talented coaching leadership team, working alongside Elliot Foweraker (Ladies 1st XI Coach) and James Terry (Director of Junior Hockey) to support the wider Ladies club and help drive the entire club forward.

Message From Rob. 

“I am incredibly excited to be joining Stourport Hockey Club as Director of Hockey and Men’s 1st XI Coach.

This appointment is particularly meaningful for me as it brings me back to the Midlands, where I grew up and first developed my love for hockey playing at a local club. To return to the area and become part of such an ambitious club is a fantastic opportunity.

Throughout my career I have been fortunate to gain experience across school, club, talent pathway and international hockey environments in England, Wales and the Netherlands. My passion has always been helping players, coaches and teams maximise their potential while creating environments where people genuinely enjoy being involved.

At Stourport, I hope to bring that experience to support the continued growth of the club. My focus will be on developing a clear hockey identity, strengthening the player pathway, supporting coaches and creating a culture built around enjoyment, ambition, hard work and continuous improvement.

The club already has so many strengths, from its thriving junior section to its talented senior teams and dedicated volunteers. I am looking forward to working with everyone involved as we continue to create better players and develop a better club.”
