Stourport Hockey Club, established over 125 years ago, is a family-oriented sports club run by volunteers as a not-for profit organisation, where we encourage play for all ages and abilities, from 8-80. We are proud to boast several internationals to many social members who come back to pick up a stick to retry hockey again.
We are one of only a few hockey clubs in England who have achieved both a Talent Academy (TA) status, to develop potential international 15 to 18 year-olds plus a thriving Talent Centre (TC) status to support 11-15 year-olds on their hockey journey. The TC accreditation demonstrates that processes are in place to address key areas such as coaching, talent development provision, athletes wellbeing and governance where all members of Stourport Hockey Club will see the benefit of this progress.
Our Vision is for Stourport Hockey Club to be a thriving, enjoyable and high-performing club for players and supporters of all ages and abilities, whilst establishing an indisputable reputation as on e of the best hockey clubs in the Midlands.
We are committed to ensuring our men's and women's first and second teams play regular national league hockey, whilst developing a junior section that provides even more opportunities to both grass root and elite athletes.
History
Established in 1892, Stourport Hockey Club boasts an impressive history, forming just 16 years after the UK's first Hockey Association was launched in 1876.
Since this time, the club has been committed to providing opportunities in hockey for those living in and around the West Midlands - resulting in many individual and team successes.
From our Men's first XI enjoying considerable success in the National League during the 1980's where they finished runners up in 1988 to our most famous former player, Olympic gold medalist, Imran Sherwani, scoring two goals in the Seoul Olympics' final of that year.. For the 2024/2025 season we see our Men's first XI back in the National League.
More recently, our Women's first XI have enjoyed national league success, finishing runner's up in Division One in 2023.
In addition, many of our players have enjoyed national and International recognition throughout junior, Senior and Masters age groups.
Our Junior section is equally recognisable at all age ranges on a national scale having had success in lots of age groups in recent years.
Present Day
Today Stourport Hockey Club boasts around 400 members of which around 250 are juniors (under 18) and around 150 are senior, masters or social members. This makes Stourport one of the largest Hockey Clubs in the midlands.
Our Men's first XI achieved back to back promotions from the Midlands leagues and National Leagues to find themselves in the National League Division 1 North for the 2024/2025 season.
Our Ladies first XI have begun their rebuilding process with new coaching staff and leadership coming into the squad. THey hope to start this new venture with a strong 24/25 season in the National League Midlands Conference.
Junior hockey is integral to the growth and development of Stourport Hockey Club. With a growing membership of over 250 players, our junior teams have competed at both regional and national levels, with Stourport Hockey Club renowned for player progress and development throughout the Country, underpinned by our England Hockey Talent Centre accreditation.
