Alastair McIntyre

It is with a heavy heart we have to share the news of the passing of one of our long serving club members Alastair Mcintyre.

Alastair, his Wife Karen and Son Harry have all been playing members of our club for many years.

Alastair was Chairman of SHC from 1997-2000 and before that a key Executive member and player.  Whilst Chairman he was part of a small team who all made significant contributions to the activities which allowed SHC to transition away from Tan Lane to where we are based at the KIngsway today. Overlapping his role as Chair Alastair also supported the sports club as an active Director between April 1998 and October 2002. Alastair always brought a sensible, intelligent and logical perspective and was always approachable.

Alastair was a clubman through and through and was a huge supporter of the club at every level, and took great pride in any post he held. Playing on a Saturday and Sunday he never shied away from the captaincy of a team. As a regular tourist he always thoroughly enjoyed his time ‘on tour’ introducing the club to a hockey festival held annually in Herne Bay.  A Stourport touring side known as ‘Fat Chance’ emerged. Such was its success that some years the club would enter two teams into the festival. Alastair played hockey in later years alongside his son Harry who continues to play for the club today, having come through the Junior ranks of the club.

Our thoughts and love go to Karen, Harry and his family at this very sad time.

RIP Mac taken too soon.
